The Detox Diet

Never suppress and treat “symptoms”....    detoxify and regenerate!

Diet is FIRST and KEY!.... To acchieve deeper detoxification and reverse dis-ease symptoms, we must first change the chemistry in our body to a more alkaline state. To initiate the process, we must first recognize what type of diet will allow the most effective cellular detoxification. Through extensive research, observation, common sense and many years of clinical work, Dr. Morse came to realize and witness that a diet of fresh, raw fruits and leafy green vegetables are KEY to a high level of healing and regeneration. Coupling this type of raw food diet with specific botanical herbs will allow a higher level of detoxification, achieving tremendous success as a result.

Why Should we Alkalize the Body?.... Because acidosis is inflammatory and destructive to cells, the body will use steroids, calcium, water (edema), lipids (cholesterol), etc. to fight back. This causes dehydration both inside and outside around the cells. Our body is healthiest when our pH is more on the alkaline side.

What are Alkalizing Foods?....   There are pH charts on the internet showing which foods result in an acid-ash after digestion and which ones are more alkalizing. Basically, alkaline foods are your fruits and vegetables and everything else is on the acid side more or less.

What this program is NOT.... This is NOT your typical detox program that goes for a week or even a month and then you’re done and you go back to eating what you did before. This is also NOT just a colon cleanse that works only on your digestive system.

How does it work?.... Regenerative detoxification works at the cellular level to remove wastes and toxins. The whole body is cleansed and strengthened, cells and tissues are regenerated and dis-ease processes are reversed. It begins with a 14 week protocol and is tailored according to your individual weaknesses and health issues.

When doing the regenerative detoxification program, there are several goals we are trying to address.

  • Alkalization - return the body’s chemistry to a more healthy alkaline level.
  • Gastro-Intestinal Tract - clean out toxins, mucus and built-up wastes on the colon wall.
  • Hydration - re-hydrate the cells and interstitial spaces (between the cells).
  • Parasites - remove parasites, fungus, and other unwanted micro-organisms.
  • Kidneys and Adrenals - strengthen adrenal glands and increase kidney filtration
  • Lymphatic System - get the lymph system moving to remove the wastes and damaged cells.

During the Detoxification Phase....   In his healing practice, Dr. Morse emphasizes: fresh, raw, organic FRUIT and FRUIT JUICES as the most important food source for detoxification and regeneration. More about fruits here.

During this phase, ALL persons are encouraged to completely STOP the intake of:
   - All dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, milk chocolate, sour creme, etc.)
   - Proteins - meat, poultry, fish, eggs
   - Grains, nuts, seeds, legumes and starchy foods (rice, pasta, potatoes, breads, rye, etc.)
   - Fermented foods (kefir, kombucha, kimchi, miso, sauerkraut, soy sauce, tempeh).

Levels of Detoxification......   A detox program can be done at various levels, depending on your desire, determination, commitment, severity of symptoms, family support, mental and emotional issues, etc. Some people wish to transition their diet slower and progress toward a higher level of detoxification at their own pace. Some people will jump right in and fast or do a 30 day grapes only diet. It is best to consult with a trained detoxification practitioner before you begin.

Level 1 - First thing.... change to more alkalizing foods and STOP eating acid-forming foods (some acid forming foods include meats, grains, processed dairy, processed sugar, sodas, nuts, beans, seeds, eggs and more).

Level 2 - Eat mainly fruits and vegetables (best is raw, organic and unprocessed), for at least a few weeks. Starting right away with only fruits may be too aggressive for some, causing extreme cleansing symptoms.

Level 3 - Then change to only fresh fruits (grapes, lemons or melons are best).... fruits have the highest anti-oxidants and astringent properties of all foods.
    Note: Detoxifying too fast? or want to slow the process down a bit - add vegetables back with the fruits.

Level 4 - Fasting - several types and levels
     1 - Intermittent fasting (not eating all day until late afternoon)
     2 - Juice fasting (vegetables or fruits)
     3 - Juice fasting (fruits only - lemon, grape or watermelon juice is best)
     4 - Water fasting - the deepest and fastest way to detox. (Not recommended for chronic or degenerative cases when patient has little energy) Undertaking a cleansing, detoxification fast while pregnant or nursing is also not recommended.
     5 - Dry fasting - a short fast usually 18 to 36 hours with no food and no water. This is a good way to get stubborn kidneys to start filtering. (Consult your regenerative detoxification practitioner before beginning this type of fast.)
    Note: How to break a fast. Start back on foods in the reverse order - add fruit juices or fresh fruits, then vegetable juices, raw vegetables, then some cooked vegetables, seeds, nuts, etc.

Detoxifying Herbs......   Dr. Morse has found that when you add herbs to a detox program, it really kicks things up a notch. The herbs are “tissue specific” meaning they have the qualities and components to help certain organs, glands or systems. (Amazing, the intelligence and widom of our Creator!) Dr. Morse’s formulas contain many herbs that work together to detox, cleanse and strengthen the various systems like kidneys and adrenals, the lymph system, stomach and bowels, endocrine glands, circulation, brain function, nerve regeneration and more. A trained practioner will assist you in choosing the right herbal formulas for your detox program.

Fruits vs. Vegetables for Detoxing......   Superior deep-tissue detoxification can only take place with fruits. Vegetables, because of their lower energetic, antioxidant and astringent properties, and their complex cellulose structures will only detoxify you so far, and then you will reach a plateau. Vegetables are the builders, which are suited for muscle and skeletal tissue. They are not optimal detoxification foods. They do not have the highest potentials in energy, and do not have an astringent or hydrating effect on the body. More about fruits here.

What about all the sugar in fruit?   I heard it feeds cancer?......   This is another tremendous mis-understanding. Fruit sugar (fructose) is a “simple sugar” that feeds every cell in the body and is easy to digest. To claim sugars feed cancer is to deny what decades of science has proven. Starving the body for sugar means starving ALL cells of their energy. This causes acidosis, ketosis and damaged cells. Too much protein, complex sugars, starches, and refined fats or too many supplemented fatty acids also causes this acidosis and damaged cells.

How do I get my Protein?....  First, let’s look at the difference between protein and amino acids. Proteins are complex structures that need to be broken down into simple amino acids before the body can use it. The digestion process to break down complex protein requires a lot of the body’s energy. It is acid-forming to the body, and produces acidic by-products. This is also very hard on your kidneys. Body-builders and people on Paleo diets that are eating large amounts of meat and protein powders are unknowingly, but slowly destroying their kidneys. So, what most people think is protein - meats, eggs, etc., we consider only 2nd-hand or a lower class undesirable protein. Fruits contain simple amino acids that are very easy to digest and are alkalizing to the body.

What about Vitamin B12?....  You may be suprised to know that B12 is actually not a vitamin. It is a bacteria produced by a microbe in our intestinal flora. B12 is also found in organic soil where it is taken up by plants. The use of pesticides, fungicides and herbicides kill bacteria and B12. If you are taking antibiotics or pharmaceutical drugs, or have low calcium levels, your B12 is either destroyed or prevented from being absorbed. A healthy gut and healthy body doesn't need supplementation.

The “Healing Crisis”....  When the body begins to cleanse, there will be times when it becomes strong enough to initiate an elimination of wastes. We call this a Cleansing or Healing Crisis and it is welcomed and desired (trust your body’s intelligence). This cleansing can show up in many forms - headache, cold or flu symptoms, skin eruptions, mucus, etc. You do NOT want to stop this. It will usually only last a few days, but may be more severe in certain cases. Consult with your trained practitioner for help through these times.

Mental and Emotional Detoxification......   True detoxification must take place in all levels within you. If you want to be successful in attaining better health and vitality, you must detox your thoughts, emotions and your physical body. Anger, for instance, creates stress and constricts the blood and lymphatic flow. It shuts down the liver and pancreas, affecting digestion. It over-stresses the adrenal glands, releasing excessive hormones and neurotransmitters causing acidosis. Anger obstructs and restricts, whereas "love" alkalizes, opens and expands.

Other Helpful Therapies......   Detoxifying salt or clay baths, colon cleanses, saunas, massage, more sleep, rest and meditation.

The Regeneration phase....   A loss of weight or muscle tone is normal and expected in some people as you go through detoxification. The body must break down and eliminate wastes before regenerating and rebuilding healthy cells and tissue. It is actually the same foods you ate in the detoxificaion phase that will also help the body rebuild. Dr. Morse does not dictate what people should eat once they’ve achieved a level of health that they’re satisfied with. His focus is informing you of what it takes to detoxify properly and on educating you as to why you lost (or never had) a robust level of health to begin with. It is then completely up to the individual to decide how they wish to proceed with their diet afterward. Interestingly, most people decide to continue a high raw diet.
